One of the first questions people usually ask us is, “How much does a new roof cost?”

The short answer: If you’re a homeowner in the Bismarck-Mandan and surrounding area, somewhere between $5,000 and $50,000.

The long answer: It depends on a few things.

  1. Size of your roof: Obviously, the bigger the roof, the bigger the cost. Big roofs require more materials and more labor to get the job done. When we size your roof, we look at it in terms of “squares,” which are 10×10 foot sections. We also take into account sections of your roof that may contain skylights or HVAC equipment. Those added complexities require more “squares” and can bump up the price.
  2. Angle of your roof: Flat roofs are safe and easy to work on, but they’re pretty uncommon in residential areas in the Bismarck-Mandan region. Your roof likely has several angles on the roof. Higher angled roofs require more safety equipment and effort to get the materials up to the roof and safely installed.
  3. Type of materials: The most common shingle type in North Dakota is asphalt, usually the most economical. But many like to choose metal roofs because it saves on energy costs and they hold up better to North Dakota’s harsh winds. Other types of materials available are wood, which looks great and is environmentally friendly, or slate. We also offer “Designer” shingles or roof covers which emulate wood shakes, slate or other elaborate looks.
  4. Location of your home: It’s fairly uncommon in North Dakota, but if you’re in an area where homes are built closely together, it may be hard for us to get easy access to the job site. The easier it is for our crews to move materials to the jobsite, the better.

The good news is that if your roof was damaged by hail, or any sort of damage covered by insurance, we’re willing to work with your insurance company to price the work and materials as covered under your policy.
